Program areas at A Purposeful Rescue
A PURPOSEFUL RESCUE IS A 501C3 NON-PROFIT THAT SAVES DOGS FROM HIGH-KILL LOS ANGELES AREA SHELTERS.There are many amazing dogs who get overlooked, or need a little extra work or care, and we aim to give those dogs a second chance. We strongly believe that we will not adopt our way out of the problem of pet overpopulation, which is why we focus heavily on prevention and community outreach. Primarily focused on South Central Los Angeles, we promote spay and neuter and education. We rely on the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.Summary of Successes and AchievementsThroughout 2022-2023 APR provided critically needed veterinary care to adoptable dogs, many of whom are older and require lifelong care and treatment.APR often pulls dogs kept in the medical area in the back of the shelter where their health issues keep them from being seen by the public and are passed over for adoption. There are also many amazing dogs who get overlooked, or need a little extra work and care, and we aim to give those dogs a second chance. In 2022, APR rescued 304 dogs of which 225 have been adopted, while 79 are being cared for by our foster volunteers In 2023, APR rescued 285 dogs of which 215 have been adopted, while 70 are being cared for by our foster volunteers In the last two years, APR has spayed or neutered 277 dogs Our partnership with Downtown Dog Rescue and SpayforLA expanded access to spay and neuter procedures for approximately 61 dogs and 54 cats during a 60-day period On a weekly basis APR host their Adoption Day Event at Platform 8850 Washington Blvd in Culver City from 11:00 am to 1:00pm. It is an opportunity to showcase a select group of our wonderful adoptable dogs while socializing with them. These posts receive 300+ likes and are viewed by thousands each week on InstagramFuture Plans1. Spay and Neuter Partnership: A Purposeful Rescues Spay and Neuter Program is a new collaborative partnership with Downtown Dog Rescue, and I Stand With My Pack to address the critical need for spay and neuter surgeries in the community. Pet owners who are low income or living on a fixed income, on disability, seniors or unhoused who have limited or no means to pay for spay and neuter surgeries are able to get this surgery for their dogs and help reduce pet overpopulation. Their gratitude upon being able give their dogs a healthier and happier life is immeasurable.2. Enhanced Training: A Purposeful Rescue would not be as successful as it is without the help of their amazing fosters and volunteers. Our foster program reduces the number of dogs in shelters and increases successful outcomes for more dogs in your community. APR will be seeking funding that would allow us to offer regular and ongoing training for all fosters and volunteers. This includes all medical care, training, and transport, if needed for dogs under a foster's care.3. Dental Care for Senior Dogs: Our highest need area is dental care for senior dogs. Support is needed to provide critically needed anesthetic dental cleanings for senior dogs entering the rescue. Seniors (ages 8 years and up) are one of our focus areas, these amazing dogs are often victims of a lifetime of medical neglect, requiring dental care under anesthesia, with extractions of painful rotting teeth. Each anesthetic dental is approximately $300, and oftentimes higher depending on the level of acuity of each dog.
