Summer Reading Program ABCLC operates a summer reading program for low income students at risk of academic failure. The program operates all day and incorporates a summer feeding program providing free breakfast, lunch, and snack for all children. The program is an intergenerational program that hires college students from the community to teach and mentor students in a classroom environment. The program hires experience teachers to supervise and mentor the college students. The program is free to families.
Parent and Community Engagement - ABCLC provides parent and community engagement programs designed to develop a shared accountability between schools, parents and community, and to promote and achieve academic excellence for all students. The program aims to build family capacity by using available information and community resources to improve children academic achievement and promote family self-sufficiency. These programs connect the family to information and/or resources, and support parents in becoming co-partners in their childrens education. Services may include college and career readiness, health and nutrition, and employment resources.
Tutoring and Mentoring ABCLC operates an after-school program for low income students at risk of academic failure at no cost to the family. Services provided include targeted reading intervention, homework assistance, cultural enrichment, and physical activities. The program provides pick-up services from designated schools, and incorporates a feeding program providing free snack and supper for all students. The program hires retired teachers and college students to provide services to academic services to the students.
