Program areas at Academy for the Love of Learning
Community programs: the Academy continued implementing its Learning exchange (le) methodology. the first Love of Learning fellowship completed its work with culture leaders in nm to support community projects and study the Academy's pedagogies through them, creating a foundation for expanding the Academy's work into new communities. Other le's included the inquiry project with a public school in dc and seed syllables. Design continued for a youth summit, the well of being, animated Learning modules for igtv (leading to new online coursework offerings), and the Learning exchange matrix (lem), an online forum for storing, organizing, and studying the learnings from the Academy's programs.
Seton: the seton legacy project continued to steward the Academy's collection of seton artwork and the legacy of his life's work. the project continued to engage deeply in social justice issues related to that legacy. This included an ongoing series of Learning exchange conversations between native american leaders in new mexico and Academy staff, both to bridge to those communities and to inform the Academy how best to steward the seton legacy into the future in ways that are sensitive to these issues.
Research: the Academy's research continued with internal application of its Learning model, including in faculty development and staff deep dives. Academy founder aaron stern led a transmission project, focused on conveying important elements of Academy pedagogy to select faculty and staff. the Academy's ongoing collaboration with the center for healthy minds at the university of Wisconsin saw publication of an academic paper on Learning as a practice, called the poetry of Learning. Finally, the Academy continued work with a consultant to inform and shape the Academy's ongoing transformation with a communications-based strategy for disseminating its educational programs and learnings.
Tranings: the Academy worked with another nonprofit entity to enhance their Learning programs with Learning practices created and developed by the Academy, including prototyping new online coursework offerings. Ventana: the ventana program continued a hiatus while the Academy considered the program's future.
