Program areas at Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys

The Academy holds two annual seminars: the mid year unprogram and december unprogram. Both events serve to provide continuing education in a facilitated learning environment. The mid year unprogram is held on one day in may and serves as an intermediate course. The december unprogram, held over two days, provides two levels of continuing legal education (basic/intermediate and advanced) for Attorneys (members and non-members). Afela also holds webinars, scheduled throughout the year, that are narrowed to a specific topic. The webinars are 75 minutes in length and are held online.
The Academy's contracted legal, media, and legislative consultants work at the direction of the Academy's board of directors. Legal, media, and legislative counsel monitor activities of the elected state lawmakers in the annual legislative session, department of children and families, department of Elder affairs, and various rule making committees. All such monitoring activities serve to help the Academy's elected volunteer leaders to better serve the members-at-large and the general public by ensuring advocacy from Elder Law Attorneys about Elder affairs. The media relations consultant also helps Academy members with local advocacy via proper media outlets and spreading work about Florida's annual "Elder Law month" per the governor's proclamation.
