Program areas at Act in Faith of Greater West Chester
Our 3 major program categories provide financial and in-kind support for those who do not qualify for or have exhausted all other forms of assistance. 1)basic needs: community cupboard provides groceries for those who do not have income or resources to keep their homes supplied with food, personal care and household items. Intended to be a supplemental food resource and not duplicate the support provided by other full-service food resources, our cupboards primary focus is the items not coverd by snap (food stamps)such as toilet paper, shampoo, dish/laundry soap, etc. in addition, our neighbors feeding neighbors program provides homemade frozen meals to cupboard shoppers that utilize low-cost proteins and items accessible to those who rely on food cupboards. in addition, it provides an opportunity for clients and non-clients to volunteer and work together to prep and package the meals. Launched in june 2015, the program was supported by volunteers, some of which were clients.
Obtaining/maintaining employment: provides financial assistance for those who need assistance to overcome barriers to employment such as transportation, photo id/birth certificates, cell phone minutes, work clothing and resume writing/job searching and employment support.
Housing stabilization: provides financial assistance to those who are facing eviction or utility shut-off, in need of fuel oil, in need of assistance with a security deposit to move from a shelter to a room or apartment, or in need of other housing related assistance.
