Act education programs develop community members as artists and citizens through outstanding experiential Theatre training in A context of civic engagement and community building. In 2022, Act created the young core company (ycc) as part of our education offerings. The ycc was designed to recognize the need for teen arts programming that is welcoming to all and follows A pay-what-you-choose tuition model to eliminate cost as A barrier for participation.through the ycc, Act recruits, cultivates, and supports youth not served by traditional arts and education programs, specifically bipoc, neurodivergent, and lgbtq+ youth. Ycc is A quarterly program that allows teens to participate year-round or for A single session. Since 2022, Act has teamed up with artscorps on an innovative arts education and engagement project. Artscorps teaching artists and acts artistic staff collaborate on approaches to authentically amplify student voices and help them understand connections between the processes of visual art creation and Theatre production. Students brainstorm pitches, submit proposals, and undergo iterations and drafts of review from their assigned teaching artist. Finished pieces will be professionally framed and displayed in the Act lobby for the entire run of the corresponding show, along with artist statements. These visual artworks will be seen by thousands of theatre-goers and student artists are invited to see the production. In 2023, Act and artscorps presented work from this project at the national aate conference to educators from around the country.
