Program areas at Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival

Master Apprentice Language Learning Program (MAP) is our core program. We supported 10-15 Master Apprentice teams of 2 who are working on distinct Indigenous languages. Mentor(s) work with the team and advises them through the program. The masters and apprentices are supported with a grant to participate in the program, which is intended to cover supplies, travel, and time for their work together. In 2022-2023 we continued to hybrid services to an online platform such as monthly end of month workshops for program grantees. The program directly affected up to 15 master speakers, up to 15 apprentices, one employee, the Program Assistant, for a total of 31 participants. We held three Master Apprentice Training workshops in two locations: Lemoore and Eureka, directly benefiting 90 participants including the trainees, local community members, trainers, and their families.
Seeds of Language mini grants program: In the tax year, 7 recipients received a mini grant to complete small, independent language projects covering purchase of language supplies and equipment, printing expenses, tuition for language classes.
Family Language Program: An extension of the Master Apprentice program which supports families with approaches to language immersion and supports them with a mentor and training. In this tax year, we had 10 teams start (January 2023), with support directly affecting 20-30 participants.
