Virtual via Zoom: One elementary School - shared the Obama Hawaiian Africana Exhibit Gallery vis PowerPoint. The presentation showcased photographs of the 44th U.S. President's early childhood: kindergarten class; Obama with his Mother; Obama with his grandparents; Obama with the first time he met his father at 10 years old; Obama with his Kenya grandmother; Obama riding his tricycle; Obama on the beach with grandfather; Obama playing in the ocean; Obama with Indonesian students, the house Obama lived with his mother and grandparents during his Pre-k and kindergarten years.
Coast Guard Youth Academy - in person classroom session: Engaged students in learning about Anthony Allen in 1810 found freedom in Hawaii. Allen was advisor to King Kamehameha. Students were given questions to answer about Allen. They learned about Allen's being a slave in Schenectady, NY, and how he escape finding his way to Boston where met his father. Allen became a ship hand on a commercial ship that took him around the world. The King's Kuhuna nui gifted Allen six acres of land near Waikiki. He married a Hawaiian woman and had three children. who lived to adult age. Allen died in 1835.
Virtual via Zoom - Waipahu Intermediate School - Career Fair with six classes PowerPoint presentation showcased the Obama Museum Exhibit Gallery - The early Africana settlers and descendants contributions to Island history: Photographs of Anthony Allen's arrival to Hawaii in 1810; The King's Royal Band consisted of Africana men; the Museum's in-school program "Hawaiian AFricana Youth Enrichment Program (HAYEP) showing students engaged in classroom activities; NPS Underground Railroad of Freedom site at "Washington Middle School" in Honolulu, Pearl Harbor Military history; Manana Barracks where Black military men lived in segregated housing during WWII.
