African Film Festival promotes and increases knowledge and understanding of African arts, literature, and culture while developing an audience for African film and expanding the opportunities for its distribution in the United States and abroad. The festival accomplishes this through a national traveling series to bring African cinema to a broad audience while integrating educational programming into existing school curricula in NYC to harness the unique educational power of film.

National traveling series: to bring African cinema to the broadest possible audience. Educational programming: to brings the unique educational power of Film to nyc students by integrating African cinema into existing curricula at participating schools, illustrating aspects of African culture that the students might not otherwise encounter. Community programs: to brings African Film directly to ny neighborhoods with limited cultural resources, taking African cinema out of the art house and into the community.
