Program areas at Aggregate Ready Mix of Minnesota
The Aggregate Ready Mix of Minnesota (arm or the association) is a statewide 501(c) (6) not-for-profit association of producers and businesses who have a common interest in the production of Aggregate and Ready Mix concrete. The mission statement of the association states that "arm is committed to the Aggregate and Ready Mix industries through promotion, education, environment, and government issues." The association was founded in 1950.some arm members are members of the national stone, sand, and gravel association (nssga); and the national Ready mixed concrete association (nrmca). Arm recognizes the outstanding work of its membership through its lifetime achievement awards. Arm also organizes membership events including an annual convention to review arm initiatives, preview forthcoming business impacts, promote best practices, and engage in technology transfer in the Aggregate and Ready Mix concrete industries. Arm communicates regularly with its members through periodic electronic member updates, committee meetings and communications, and through its annual printed membership directory. Arm also maintains two websites (www.armofmn.com and www.letsrockminnesota.com) as resources to arm members; to provide Aggregate and concrete education to owners, specifiers, and contractors; and to promote jobs in the Aggregate and concrete industries. Arm holds member events throughout the year for organizational, networking, and educational purposes; including an annual meeting in early winter, a golf outing in the summer, and a summer organizational and networking event.arm works vigorously to ensure that its members and their customers are kept current of the latest technologies and developments. To accomplish this goal, arm is a local sponsoring group for the american concrete institute (aci) and delivers aci and Minnesota department of transportation (mndot) technical certification training in conjunction with lake superior college, duluth, mn. Arm offers the following certification courses through this cooperative effort: Aggregate production, concrete field testing technician level 1; concrete field 2, and concrete field 1 & 2 recertification. Arm also offers additional aci courses throughout the year.arm partners with its cement producer members to promote concrete parking lots and local streets in Minnesota through partnership with the concrete paving association of Minnesota (cpam). Arm staff works with arm members to increase the market share for concrete in these markets by enlisting the assistance and resources of the national Ready Mix concrete association (nrmca) and the national concrete pavement technology center. Arm continues to be a member of the american society of concrete contractors. Glenn engstrom, arm's director of engineering, research, and technology transfer is a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota.
Arm members and the arm executive director worked with legislative consulting firm, flaherty & hood to represent arm members at the Minnesota legislature, state agencies and local government bodies on regulatory and public policy issues impacting the Aggregate and Ready Mix industries in Minnesota. Arm was the leading proponent at the Minnesota legislature for raising truck weight limits on Minnesota 10-ton roads and was successful in its efforts to lobby on behalf of increased truck weights during the 2017 legislative session. Arm also supported funding for dnr Aggregate resource mapping and a legislative Aggregate resources task force. Arm also continues to be a member of the Minnesota chamber of commerce.the association accomplishes its work through a committee structure that oversees a number of major initiatives. Arm's environment & land use committee continues to be engaged in the development and review of new regulatory rules. This committee works closely with the eqb, mpca, and dnr relating to mining in Minnesota. Arm participates in educational workshops and statewide conferences designed to increase public awareness of the Aggregate mining industry in Minnesota and the uses and benefits of dependable local sources of Aggregate products. Arm supports the Minnesota center for mineral resource education (mcmre) a 501(c) (3) charitable education organization focused on supporting k-12 science teachers understanding of the minerals industry in Minnesota through annual Minnesota minerals education workshops (mmew). Arm staff serves on the research advisory council of the rmc research and education foundation.the technical committee monitors new technology in the Aggregate and Ready mixed concrete industries at the direction of the arm board of directors and works with state and local agencies to educate regulators on the benefits of performance standards for construction materials. Arm also supports research projects including concrete pavement research at the mnroad pavement research facility (mnroad) in albertville, mn and participates on the national road research alliance (nrra).the arm board of directors is elected annually at the annual membership meeting of the association in november. The board of directors meets four times a year to review the work of its executive committees, review financial statements, develop annual budgets and approve annual work plans for the association. The executive committee consists of the president, vice president, past president, treasurer and such additional members as may be appointed by the board of directors. Subject to the control and direction of the board of directors, the executive committee may act on behalf of the association during the intervals between the regular quarterly meetings of the board of directors.
