Program areas at Al-Maauun
Food Services: We have expanded our Food Services program to include school lunch preparation of approximately 1600 meals (breakfast and lunches) on a daily basis in September. This has been quite the undertaking and caused us to ramp up very quickly to a team of 10 to respond to the exponential growth. In addition, Al-Maa'uun has partnered with Meals of Wheels to become the first Halal vendor in Minneapolis to service our growing Muslim senior population. We serve approximately 500 meals weekly to seniors who are 60 and up and those under 60 with a disability.
Housing: We currently have 10 units of housing that we own/manage through Al-Maa'uun. We house individuals and families through our "second chance" housing model that focuses on people with chronic unemployment, criminal backgrounds, homelessness. Our most recent housing project is the "Housing of Peace", which will provide housing and support services returning citizens coming back from incarceration. Services included food, laundry services, internet services, employment/training, mentoring, behavioral health services and more.
Employment Services: As of January 2021, we've had 75 candidates come through the North@Work program, which focuses on African & African American men ages 25 up with training and livable wage employment. A total of 18 clients received commercial driving license (CDL) and 12 received certificates of completion in Construction and IT from Summit Academy. We successfully assisted 20 of the 30 candidates with employment at $17 per hour or higher. Al-Maa'uun Career Services, our community based staffing agency, had 22 clients receive work readiness training and obtained full-time employment with the Minneapolis Public Schools as custodians. With our support 14 of 22 clients stayed on the job for 90 days or more, with four of them being hired permanently by Minneapolis Public Schools with an average wage of $16.93 per hour plus benefits.
