Program areas at Alabama Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics
Meetings and conferences conducted to provide pediatric physicians in the the state of Alabama with tools and education to assist them with providing quality patient care and services. Two meetings were conducted across the state during this fiscal year with approximately 100 participants per meeting.
Developmental screening project - this project provides standardized screening to identify developmental delays in children. The Alabama child health improvement alliance (achia) developmental screening continuous quality improvement training trains practices on routine developmental screening for earlier identification of developmental delays and appropriate referral to best assure a young child's optimal development and readiness for kindergarten. The developmental trainings enable clinics to use the quality improvement plan-dostudy-act method for practice change, with the goals of building capacity to implement standardizeddevelopmental screening in a busy practice, engage families in routine developmental screening using a standardized tool, address parent concerns, and interface with the community to refer at-risk children for diagnostic evaluation and services.
Reach out and read - program designed to prepare children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. Approximately 150,000 children were served in the state of Alabama for the fiscal year through 300 medical providers.
