Program areas at Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Education and training - training and information on the latest research as well as up-to-date resources on best practices in listening and spoken language is the focus of the annual symposium. Since 2020, the symposium has been held virtually and included attendance from 47 countries in 2022. the loft program for high teens was offered face to face and involved 38 teens. Leap for middle school and leap for high school was held virtually and drew 70 and 49 registrants respectivly. Leap and loft programming assist teens in self-awareness, self-determination, strength-based leadership, advocacy for themselves and others, and improved communication skills and self-confidence.
Financial aid - ag Bell provided financial assistance to families of children with moderate to severe/profound Hearing loss to assist with equipment, therapy, learning tools, specialized programming, private school, and college education.
Communications and publications-to ensure that information reaches people with Hearing loss, their families and the professionals who serve them, ag Bell provided the most up-to-date information in well-respected publications on listening and spoken language. Ag Bell's website is the best-known, internationally recognized resource providing information in english and spanish. Ag Bell also publishes its weeekly blog, volta voices, and other reliable brochures and materials regarding listening and spoken language, and makes extensive use of social media to raise awareness that children who are Deaf can learn to hear and talk.
