Program areas at Alexandria Area Arts Association
Aaaa produces 5 mainstage productions per year, including a fall musical, a holiday show, a dedicated youth musical, an adult drama, and a spring show. In addition, the Association presents a variety of regional and national touring musical acts and theatrical productions, and provides a rental facility for additional productions who need performance space. The Association has over 10,000 audience members attend these productions, which include participation from over 300 Area youth and adults in a variety of roles (actors, designers, musicians, directors, ushers, and technical staff). The organization also produces improvisation shows.
Aaaa offers several education opportunities, including classes and workshops for youth and adults. The classes and workshops cover topics such as acting, design, makeup, stage combat, auditioning, and more. The classes are designed in conjunction with the high school and continuing education programs to ensure cohesive training. Each summer, the aaaa holds the student theatre project, which is an intensive theatre experience designed for late elementary through high school students. More than 60 students participate in the project which covers music, dance, acting, and production experiences, culminating in a musical production. In the fall they offer a student youth theatre for the younger actors.
Aaaa produces events throughout the year, including the annual art in the park. This event features 160 booths of fine art and quality handmade products, and attracts over 20,000 attendees throughout the weekend event.
