Program areas at Alisal Community Arts Network
Over 50 youth, parents, staff & volunteers participated in Alisal Community Arts Network?s (ACAN) first ever California Summer Performance Tour for Drum Corps International (DCI), or ?marching music?s major league.? Performances included: Pasadena - DCI Drum Corps at the Rose Bowl, San Bernadino Community College - DCI Western Corps Connection, Palo Alto - DCI West at Stanford University Stadium, and Union City - Pacific Open Class Championship at James Logan High School. 8 participants from our Summer SoundSport Marching Band were hired to teach CHISPA/Community Housing Improvement Systems & Planning Association and AUSD/Alisal Union School District. This number has been increasing little by little over the years and will likely surpass 15 in the next school year. An ACAN student and employee auditioned for Vessel Drum & Bugle Corps in Southern California (vesseldrumcorps.org) and made the team. Many students have learned and performed with us at DCI events but this young man was the first to make an outside DCI summer drum corps. He played vibraphone and toured the west coast. 1st through 6th grade AUSD elementary school students joined the 2022-2023 AUSD Performing Arts Academy Competition Team, which competed in Northern California Percussion Alliance (nc-pa.org) Championships. They won the 1st place gold medal and were the 2023 NCPA PSJ/Percussion Scholastic Junior Champions.
