Below the Stacks Mural Festival: Below the Stacks (BTS) was a citywide mural festival featuring 11 regional and international street artists. Artists transformed massive walls around Lansing into inspiring works of art. The artists represented diverse styles and backgrounds, bringing thew Pperspectives to share with Lansing's diverse communities. BTS was a week:long festival that featured live mural painting across the City of Lansing, family-friendly workshops, guided tours, artist lectures and live entertainment. The culmination of the festival featured an all ages hip-hop show celebrating the completion of all murals with the artists and the community All events were free the public. The festival drew 2500.4500 attendees from across the region andthe nation
Beats And Rhymes Sessions (BARS) & Breaking Classes: BARS is a collaborative experience in software-based music production and lyric composition for youth ages 13-18. These classes are offered in 8-week blocks throughout the year. In 2019, we were able to secure our own programming space and shifted from uffenng these classes on-site at schools and conunuity-based viganizations to offeting them in our vwn studiu space in the Lansing Public Media Center Breaking classes focus on skill building and community building among dancerg, including opportunities, for performances (cyphers throughout the year. These classes are offered on a continual basis throughout the year at various locations AQTA served 35 students through BARS classes and 29 students through breaking classes for a total of 64 students served in
Community Performances & Workshops: J AQTA participated in several community-based events throughout the year, showcasing the art (whether it be performing original music and beats or breaking) of our students. In 2019, these events included the East Lansing Art Festival, The Wharton Center’s Be In The Room (an event leading up to the Hamilton musical national tour residency). Lansing 5:01 and the Mayor's State of the City address, among others. Participation in these events 1s one way AQTA serves as a hip hop cultural resource to our community
