Program areas at Alliance for Communities in Action
EDUCATION: The program manages a local school (preschool, primary and secondary), Colegio Corazon de Jesus in Veracruz Nicaragua The over 200 come from poor families who have limited resources to educate ail their children The teachers participate in training activities and receive academic scholarships for university degrees and professional accreditation The program integrates christian, professional, technical, artistic and civic aspects with the standard academic requirements to provide a holistic learning experience This forms character, self identity and prepares our students to excel in their studies that prepares them to succeed at the university level The courses were more integrated, the methodology was more directed to in depth learning and the class schedules were adapted to accommodate the new methodology The academic levels improved as the teachers became more effective in conveying the subject matter to the students Teachers now participate in sharing lessons learned with other teachers from other Schools in the community. An extensive nutritional education program has been incorporated into the class material for all primary level students. Parents also recetve training in nutriuonal components such as proper preparation and handling of foods and balanced daily diets
COMMUNITY: Center for Children and the Family (CENFAMA) in Nicaraqua promotes family health education, hygiene and a nutritional feeding program for 200 students Psychological, educational methodology and formation for teachers 1s provided as well as counseling for students and parents. CENFAMA maintains a cultural and recreational program for students, community youth at risk and adults in sport activities as weil as school, liturgical and regional activities for family and community. Donated goods are collected in the U S and sent to local community church groups to assist projects for the POOK
