The Alternative Newsweekly Foundation supports the core principles of the Alternative press; serves as a fiscal sponsor to independent entities building local news and information infrastructure; and collaborates with partners to advance the mission behind the fund for equity in local news.
The Foundation worked to create and digitize journalistic content for donor sponsored foundations/news organizations. The Foundation is focused on increasing visibility to news organizations to assist them with obtaining the funding and using the funds for this specific purpose at the sponsored project organizations.
The fund for equity in local news (feln) partnered with the google news initiative (gni) to launch the transformation tech program. The purpose of the transformation tech lab program is to equip publishers with coaching and curricula to aid their transition from print to digital revenue streams. The program will deliver the lab to 150 - 240 unique member participants during the period of june 2023 - december 2024.
