The minority fellowship awards will create an innovative pipeline and training infrastructure for building a workforce of culturally-informed physicians with specialized expertise in Addiction to serve racial and ethnic minority populations. It is based on the growing recognition that appropriately trained Addiction physicians can make critical contributions to the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders (suds), especially within underrepresented minority (urm) populations, but that there is a severe shortage of these physicians, particularly in underserved communities. The recognizing and eliminating disparities in Addiction through culturally-informed healthcare (reach) training program will establish a workforce pipeline that recruits diverse medical students and residents.
The state technical assistance team education and support (states) consortium is an alliance of national physician, nurse, and allied health organizations with expertise in Addiction medicine. States will support the state targeted response grantees across the 50 states and territories in their mission to counter the opioid epidemic by developing local networks of experts providing technical assistance on prevention, treatment, and recovery from opioid use disorder (oud). Aaap expects of the 54 ta teams to provide ta to at least 400 local providers, practitioners, or other individuals (i.e., ta recipients) who, with our ta, will be better equipped to directly address the opioid epidemic through prevention, treatment and/or recovery services for a total of 1,896,000 individuals served in year one.
Implementing pharmacotherapies for opioid dependence (pcss-mat and pcss-mat 2019): collaborative project with several national professional organizations of physicians specializing in addictions to provide evidence-based educational resources primarily stored on the web including: online modules, webinars, mentoring and clinical guides and tools. These trainings and resources focus on treating opioid addiction.approximately 396,000 people benefited from this program.
Development of meetings, publications, conferences, education, trainings, and seminars regarding Psychiatry in the field of addictions.the annual meeting's goals and objectives consists of: recognizing emerging issues and trends in Addiction Psychiatry and be on the forefront of diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders (sud) and co-occurring mental disorders, provide support and education to Addiction psychiatrists and clinicians treating patients with substance use disorders, and demonstrate for trainees the various evidence-based approaches, treatments, and settings applicable to the field (or practice) of Addiction Psychiatry. Approximately 695 members were in attendance at the annual meeting.
