The minority fellowship awards will create an innovative pipeline and training infrastructure for building a workforce of culturally-informed physicians with specialized expertise in Addiction to serve racial and ethnic minority populations. It is based on the growing recognition that appropriately trained Addiction physicians can make critical contributions to the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders (suds), especially within underrepresented minority (urm) populations, but that there is a severe shortage of these physicians, particularly in underserved communities. The recognizing and eliminating disparities in Addiction through culturally-informed healthcare (reach) training program will establish a workforce pipeline that recruits diverse medical students and residents.
