Program areas at American Academy of Family Physicians - Idaho Chapter
In 2023 the IAFP held a Legislative Reception where we shared information aboutthe benefits of Graduate Medical Education in Idaho. We featured two residentmembers that plan to stay in Idaho to practice after residency and featured two ofour physician members discussing our policy priorities.The IAFP developed extensive programming focused on Suicide PreventionScreening and Referral through our Interrupting Teen Suicide at the Gates ofPrimary Care program. We piloted the training and programming in three ruralfamily physician practices, created physician and patient toolkits, and distributedthese resources to our broader membership on our website, through CME, inemailed reports, and in our quarterly Journal.We established a support program to help our members complete the individualHealth Equity Performance Improvement Activity with the American Board ofFamily Medicine and developed a toolkit that was distributed to all members.In Fall of 2023, we visited medical students in the WWAMI program and the ICOMprogram to discuss the benefits of Family Medicine and recruit these students intothe specialty. We held member events during the AAFPs FMX event in Chicago andthe IMAs House of Delegates event in Coeur d Alene. We shared information withmembers about our work, future priorities, and upcoming educationalopportunities.In the Spring of 2023, we held an in-person Annual Conference attended by over 80of our members in McCall, ID. We offered 13.5 Continuing Medical Education(CME credits) over two days. Throughout the summer and fall we offered anevening CME series online. We also supported the Primary Care Mattersconference for members in Northern Idaho in August of 2023.We provided six scholarships to Medical Students to attend the AAFPs NationalConference and passed one resolution on increasing loan reimbursement for ruralOB care at the AAFP Congress of Delegates.We issued a quarterly hard copy Journal, sent twice monthly enewscommunications, and hosted a website with current member resources.
