Program areas at American Association of Geographers
Annual meeting: the Association conducts an annual meeting that provides a forum for discussion and exchange of information related to geography and geography education. Delegates read papers, give presentations, participate in field trips, panels, symposia, and workshops.
Membership: the Association provides services to the membership that offers information such as publications and newsletters; participation in regional or special interest groups; opportunities for involvement in educational research, policy programs, committees, commissions and projects.
Programs and research: to support the discipline of geography through summary databases and reports, to support members success in their professional lives, especially those from historically underserved populations, and to connect academics and academic outputs to public domains, such as policy discussions and public perception.
Publications: aag publishes two scholarly journals, a newsletter and a "guide to programs in geography" as well as several publications in the field of geography.
Career and education: research educational projects applicable to geography which are funded by outside agencies, foundations, and other organizations.
Funded projects (including grants and contracts): these projects are funded in whole or in part with funds received from the us federal government.
Communication:(including special funds awarded, community groups, and grants and contracts): aag promotes acquaintance and discussion among its members and with scholars in the field; stimulates research and scientific exploration; encourages publication of scholarly studies; and aids the advancement of geography and geographic education.
