Program areas at AAHKS

Annual meeting - the Association conducts an accredited medical education conference attended by over 3,600 Surgeons and industry professionals, 4,400 live attendees and 326 virtual attendees for the 2023 hybrid annual meeting. No international grants given in 2023. Original research, surgical techniques and health policy topics are presented. The proceedings of the conference are published in one of the Association's official publications, journal of arthroplasty. Additional accredited continuing medical education activities were conducted.
Research - the Association produces two peer-reviewed medical journals, the journal of arthroplasty and arthroplasty today. These journals convey the results of research that can alter and improve the practice of total joint arthroplasty. The Association's research committee also conducted the evaluation of grant applications submitted for funding to the related foundation for arthroplasty research and education. Fellowship grant recipients must have a current program agreement with aahks and sf match account. Receipt of funds requires completion of a fellowship match program director and coordinator survey.
Health policy activities - federal policy makers in congress and the executive departments and agencies were provided information and analysis about total joint arthroplasty over the course of the year. This assists the government in making better decisions on healthcare related matters that affect millions of patients. The Association also organizes and supports a health policy fellows program that allowed several surgeon-members to attend various events in Washington dc and elsewhere related to health policy and to interact with high-level federal officials and legislators. The health policy fellowship allows the participants to become more effective at understanding and assisting the process by which policy becomes law and regulation.
Quality measures project - intended to align with the cms requirement by covering all phases of surgical care as a measure set. Patient education in the way of web videos.
Fellowship match programs - the adult reconstructive Hip and Knee fellowship match program assists orthopaedic residents with obtaining fellowships in adult reconstruction in an orderly way. The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Hip society and the Knee society have established this fellowship match program. Residents apply to hospitals that have fellowship programs, and are matched to programs in a blinded mutual ranking process for further fellowship-level training.
