Program areas at ABT
Seasons:in 2023, abt presented 7 weeks of performances in new york city and 2 weeks of performances in costa mesa, California. The five-week spring metropolitan opera house season repertory included the full-length ballets of like water for chocolate, giselle, swan lake, and romeo and juliet. Abt presented a combination of classical and contemporary one-act ballets for two weeks in late october at the david h. koch theater at lincoln center. In december, abt presented the nutcracker for two weeks at the segerstrom center for the arts in costa mesa, California.
Educational training and outreach: in 2023, American Ballet Theatre's department of education and training reached over 40,000 individuals through its programs. Abt's primary outreach program is abt at school: serving 19 nyc schools engaging over 2,500 students. Abt's student training programs include the jacqueline kennedy onassis school (335 students); summer intensives held in-person (600 students) and abt studio company (12 students), a pre-professional program. Abt's teacher training program (abt national training curriculum) had 113 newly certified teachers enrolled in its 2023 courses. To date, the program has certified over 3,000 teachers in 49 states and 50 countries.
Touring: abt's touring brings classical Ballet to audiences across the country and around the world. Touring in 2023 included a regular residency at the john f. kennedy center for the performing arts in Washington, dc. Additional touring in 2023 included performances at the segerstrom center for the arts in costa mesa, California; the staller center in stony brook, new york; durham performing arts center at duke university in durham, nc; the auditorium Theatre in chicago, Illinois; the gaillard center in charleston, south carolina; the lied center for the performing arts at the university of Nebraska in lincoln, Nebraska; the hancher auditorium at the university of Iowa in Iowa city, Iowa; (continued on sch o)the filene center at the wolf trap national park for the performing arts in vienna, Virginia; the shanghai grand Theatre in shanghai china; and the national center for the performing arts in beijing china.
