Program areas at ACLT

Land management program: protected and managed the 3,449 acre parkers creek preserve's natural resources by: implementing forestry management plans, controlling nonnative invasive plant species; collecting quarterly surface water quality samples; instituting an agriculture supporting the community program; and conducting a white-tailed deer herd management program. Protected cultural resources by: stabilizing historic structures and maintaining a historic cemetery; maintained 26 miles of hiking trails to encourage public access to preserved lands for educational, scientific, recreational and cultural purposes; conducted guided canoe trips to provide environmental education to the public about the parkers creek watershed; managed the limited access warrior's rest sanctuary for environmental education and scientific research. Actively and regularly monitored 1,639 acres owned in fee simple by the American Chestnut Land Trust; actively and regularly monitored 1,810 acres of Land owned in fee simple by the state of Maryland and leased by the American Chestnut Land Trust; actively and regularly monitored 5 conservation easements totaling 374 acres.
Land preservation: worked to preserve additional acreage in the parkers creek and governors run watersheds. Worked with the sustainable calvert network to advocate for Land conservation and preservation throughout calvert county. Implementing the five year plan which calls for promoting Land conservation and preservation throughout southern Maryland. Led the southern Maryland conservation alliance.
Membership & outreach services: conducted outreach and stewardship events to bring in new members. Provided promotional materials to increase awareness of aclt and its mission in southern Maryland. Operated an agriculture in support of the community program, raising and donating food for those in need. Shared information about aclt and its mission by holding numerous events, canoe trips and guided hikes as well as hosting several group visits to double oak farm. Also represented aclt at many off-site events held by other organizations. Conducted a welcoming program where volunteers greet visitors at the trailheads and share information about aclt. Maintained a robust public outreach program with regular email notices and social media posts. Over 130 volunteers totalled 7,776 hours of work for aclt.
