Program areas at American Civil Liberties Union of Maine

Legislative advocacy - the aclu-me's legislative advocates are an effective presence in augusta, working to guard and advance Civil Liberties in Maine. During the first regular session of the 131st legislature, we supported bills to limit how private tech companies collect and use our electronic data, expand abortion access, ensure young people have access to gender- affirming care, make public entities subject to the state anti- discrimination laws, and close Maine's only youth prison. We opposed bills that would worsen mass incarceration, impose censorship in schools, make it harder to exercise the right to vote, and discriminate against trans youth.
