Acec Colorado foundation accomplishments fy2024; - in april 2024, the foundation awarded 42,000 in scholarships to Engineering students enrolled in an accredited board for Engineering & technology-accredited Engineering program at a Colorado university/college. - the foundation hosted an interactive table-top at the hoya foundation's annual girls in transportation & construction day in september 2023. Over 1500 girls from local elementary, middle and high schools participated, many of whom tried out the foundation's interactive activity of using straws to build bridges. - in january 2024, the foundation provided a 2,500 sponsorship for future city Colorado competition, a hands-on cross-curricular educational program that brings stem to life for students in grades 6 through 8. The foundation developed an award based upon the students' projects and their responses to interviews about what types of engineers are needed in building a city. Volunteers from many of acec Colorado's member firms served as judges for the day-long competition. - the foundation, in partnership with the students of color in technology of Colorado (socit), hosted socit's february workshop. This was a fun- filled saturday with students of all ages, where the foundation, to celebrate black history month, led a presentation highlighting the contributions of black engineers throughout us history. The students then participated in a hands-on activity that showed the importance of communication among engineers. Lastly, several engineers engaged with the students to talk about their jobs and what they like about them. - through a 2,500 sponsorship, the foundation partnered with the American society of civil engineers (asce)'s Colorado chapter when they premiered the film, "cities of the future". This premiere night featured many interactive stations showing students the fun side of Engineering and then teachers, volunteers, students, parents and other groups watching the movie that focused on the future of Engineering. - the foundation participated in several denver public schools spark events for selected eighth-grade students in under-represented communities. The students learned about how consulting engineers impact every aspect of their lives, engaged in a fun quiz, played an interactive game showing how precise measurements are required in Engineering and then had a robust q&a with the engineer volunteers to learn about their paths into Engineering. - the diversity, equity and inclusion (dei) committee of the foundation created a dei firm award in order to celebrate what consulting Engineering firms are doing along dei efforts, as well as highlighting challenges and barriers to getting dei initiatives established and ongoing within their firms
