American Foundation for Suicide Prevention promotes understanding and prevention of suicide, saves lives, and brings hope to those affected by suicide. They offer educational programs for professionals, educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention, and develop innovative projects to improve suicide prevention. Additionally, their public policy office equips volunteers with the tools to advocate for suicide prevention at all levels of government.

Program areas at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Education and support programs: we educate clinicians, other mental health professionals, workplaces, and the general public about Suicide Prevention and how to recognize signs of those at risk. We also provide programs and information for surviving family and friends after a Suicide.
Advocacy programs: we manage a network of advocates across the country that help education legislators about federal, state and local policies that will save lives.
We fund research to improve interventions and train clinicians in Suicide Prevention.
