ASL HONORS SOCIETY Assist ASL Teachers to establish student organizations in the school where they teach to encourage and recognize high academic achievement in ASL studies for high school and college students. These Honor Societies give ASL language students the opportunity for leadership, to earn community service hours, hold ASL Literature competitions, receive competitive scholarships to students studying ASL in college, support ASL teachers to obtain equipment and materials to improve teaching, and recognized students with cords or medals for graduation ceremonies in their respective schools.
NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOPS ASLTA holds workshops and a bi-annual conference to provide membership development for teachers of ASL and Deaf Studies.
CERTIFICATION AND EVALUATION SYSTEM Created certification standards for ASL Teachers and certify those teachers meeting standards. ASLTA has been certifying teachers of ASL since 1976. Certification insures teachers possess the skills and knowledge to teach ASL and the culture of the American Deaf community, encourage and reward professional growth, and encourage participation in the ASLT organization and profession. Revised the procedures and standards to better meet current standards in the field.
