As part of its public education goals, auf conducted public opinion research to inform the general public about overall opinions related to freedom for lgbtq americans. In addition, auf promoted the organization's issues and engaged with the general public through various media platforms through which the general public can advance the mission of freedom for lgbtq americans.
American Unity Fund, in furtherance of its social welfare mission to advance freedom for lgbtq americans, engages federal elected officials and officeholders to influence public policy. Areas of advocacy included marriage recognition, nondiscrimination and encouraging an American foreign policy that respects and emboldens individual freedoms. At the state level, American Unity Fund also engages in lobbying to promote freedom for lgbtq americans. Auf focused on expanding support for civil rights for gay and transgender americans. Auf supported legislation that enacts freedom to marry for same-sex couples, civil rights protections for sexual orientation, and gender identity/expressions. Auf worked to defeat legislation that would undermine various protections gay and transgender americans already receive under the law.
