The activities and accomplishments listed below illustrate the range of research, policy analysis and development, and educational work The Americas Agenda Healthcare Education Fund (AAHEF) undertook during 2022 to advance our mission of assuring access to affordable, high-quality health care for all Americans: 1.Research & Policy Development Over the course of 2022, AAHEF research and policy analysis work of the past several years culminated in issuance of a detailed new set of policy principles titled Principles for Ending Predatory Pricing as the Hallmark of the PBM-Intermediated Prescription Drug Market: Framework for Federal & State Legislative Reform, or the Framework. The Framework was developed with the objective of introducing a comprehensive strategy for permanent correction of perverse incentives in the presecription drug marketplace that drive structural prescription drug hyperinflation and are fueled by structural conflicts of interest inherent in arbitrageur-dominated marketplaces such as the prescription drug market. The Framework is designed as a detailed set of guidelines for development of comprehensive federal and/or state prescription drug market reform legislation.2.Research & Policy Briefings In 2022, AAHEF initiated briefings to members of Congress and staffs of various congressional committees including the Seante Finance Committee and Senate Commerce Committees, regarding AAHEF research findings, experience in state enactment and implementation AAHEF-deigned reforms, and the newly-developed Principles for Ending Predatory Pricing as the Hallmark of the PBM-Intermediated Prescription Drug Market: Framework for Federal & State Legislative Reform. In addition, AAHEF initiated briefings on Framework principles to key policy-makers in states that had enacted earlier AAHEF-designed prescription drug market reforms. 3.Public Education - During 2022, the AAHEF managing director conducted an extended media tour in which he was interviewed by dozens television and radio stations and newspaper journalists in states across the the country concerning the reasons for prescrioption drug hyperinflation and policy solutions that can make prescription medicines sustainably affordable for all Americans. Broadcast news stories featuring those interviews included extensive quotes from those interviews. Newspapers such as the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Denver Post ran in-depth articles educating local readerships about AAHEF-designed policy solutions and quotes from the managing director interviews. To supplement such earned media attention to AAHEFs research and analysis, the AAHEFs Labor & Employer Healthcare Transforation Project (LEHTP), developed educational materials about the AAHEF-developed policy solutions and disseminated information about them them through various media, including print, broadcast, and online. LEHTP messaging focuses on education regarding common-sense principals framed non-ideologically as common-ground, bipartisan policy solutions. AAHEF-designed social media messaging features links to the Americas Agenda and related websites to enable online readers to take deeper educational dives.
