Amistad Committee strives to educate about the Amistad slave revolt that granted freedom to its captives in 1839. Led by Sengbe Pieh, and 53 other Africans who were illegally kidnapped from West Africa, the organization holds monthly seminars to promote the value of our country’s history. Located in New Haven, CT, it seeks to preserve an important part of history.

The Amistad Committee held several monthly seminars to promote the value of our country's history 'education the Amistad slave revolt in 1839 was lead by a captive name sengbe pieh sengbe and 53 other 'africans were illegally kidnapped from west africa and sold into the transatlanyic slave trade. They 'were shackled aboard the portuguese vessel, the tecora. The captives were brought to havana, cuba ‘costal cargo on a schooner named la Amistad. Three days into the journey, sengbe pieh lead a revolt took over the schooner unable to navigate a ship, la Amistad eventually anciiored off eastern longlon island,where it was seized by the u.s. Naval cutter, the uss Washington and towed to connecticuts 'london. A hearing was held in new london, Connecticut. The africans captives were arrested, charge with mutiny and murder and were jailed in new haven, Connecticut as the first case for human rig country former president john won
