Program areas at Andrews Gift
Funding of various iPads, iPad cases, and applications to aid in learning, communication, and support inside and outside the classroom. There were 59 recipients who benefited. The objective is to provide a mandatory training day to optimize the iPad technology, attendance is mandatory for recipients and open to the public who want to learn. We plan to continue funding these grant requests in the future.
Andrew's Gift funded camps to promote social interactions, learning responsibility, and engaging in activities with a safe environment. Such camps consisted of horseback riding, swimming, dance, gymnastics, martial arts, and summery day camps. There were 20 recipients who benefited. We plan to continue funding these grant requests in the future.
Andrew's Gift created a Literacy Project that focuses on students with autism improvement in the core competencies of reading, writing, and spelling with the understanding that these foundational skills support growth in all areas of the core curriculum (math, science, social studies). We work collaboratively with school staff in each of our sites to ensure that instruction in literacy is present, robust, and designed to meet the individual needs of each student. Through our efforts we are able to support 5 schools through our program, by identifying curriculum for a diverse range of learners, to support effective instructional practices in a variety of settings, and to introduce 21st Century learning tools into these specialized instructional settings. We seek to improve student motivation for learning, to ease their ability to fully participate in learning environments, and to demonstrate growth across the components of skilled reading and additional literacy skills. We plan to continue funding these grant requests in the future.
