Program areas at Animal Legal Defense Legislative Fund
Aldlf organized and engaged in ten state level campaigns to prohibit the surgical removal of cat's claws and two states to defend against preemption legislation that would repeal local cat declaw bans. As part of the campaigns, aldlf conducted research including polling 200+ veterinary professionals, built coalitions in support, testified in favor of legislation, and contracted with three state-based lobbyists to help advance the legislation.
Aldlf contracted with economists to analyze and interpret data related to the purchasing and shipping of puppies within the united states to evaluate the effectiveness of retail sales bans, uncover trends in puppy shipping, expose the prevalence of online scams in the puppy industry, and inform on the next phase in the campaign to shutter the commercial dog sales industry.
