Program areas at Animal Trustees of Austin
Animal Trustees of Austin was founded in 1993 to respond to the critical needs of abandoned, stray, or abused animals at our local shelters. The organization quickly realized that in order to hepl combat the crisis of overpopulation, spay/neuter services must be accessible to all pet owners, regardless of their ability to pay. Over the last 22 years, ata has consistently been first to respond to the changing needs of our community by providing new services to keep pet healthy aand in their homes. Today, ata operates a full-time veterinary clinic offering low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, core vaccinations and testing for common diseases, heartworm prevention and treatment, parasite control and dental cleaning. Additionally, the clinic performs other varied, and often life-saving surgeries, including mass removals, intestinal obstructions, and urinary blockages. There are no geographic or income qualifications for our services.
The for people and animals without shelter (4paws) program provides free veterinary care for the homeless community. We are the only veterinary clinic in Texas that provides spay/neuter services and preventative care (core vaccinations and boosters, heartworm testing and preventative, flea prevention and intestinal parasite control), as well as emergency surgical procedures and in the case of heartworm positive dogs heartworm treatment - all at no charge to the animals of the homeless.
The ata emergency care fund provides treatment to animals in crisis whose owners cannot afford the cost of emergency care at full-service hospitals. Because of the skills of our surgeons, we are able to provide the treatment and care these pets need. Many of these animals would likely not survive without intervention.
The public assistance fund serves indigent clients who are not homelss and whose animals are not in critical condition, and so do not fit into the specially funded 4paws or emergency care fund program. Help might be needed for part of their services or all of them, and our goal is to give these people the financial help they need to keep their pets healthy and at home. The ata rescue fund provides veterinary care, maintenance, and placement to unowned injured animals. The veteran assistance fund defrays the cost of treatment for th pets of us veterans. The joe bricking memorial fund defrays the cost of veterinary treatment for homeless animals.
