On june 30, 2023, Antioch University changed its corporate name to Coalition for the Common Good (Coalition), but continues to do business as Antioch University as a tax-exempt entity using the same employer identification number (ein) and office of postsecondary education identification (ope id). the broader mission of the Coalition is to be the first national higher education system of affiliated private, nonprofit colleges and universities, bound by a Common mission of promoting democracy, social justice, equity, inclusion, and engaged global citizenship. Specific to Antioch University's mission, it continues to provide learner centered education to adult students across the country and around the world, via online and from its five campuses. Antioch is guided by its core values of excellence in teaching and learning, nurturing student achievement, supporting scholarship and service, a commitment to social engagement, and building and serving inclusive communities. As the Coalition develops, so will the number of degrees/programs offered by Antioch University, serving as the graduate school for the system.the Coalition of the Common Good (dba Antioch University) provides learner-centered education to empower students with the knowledge and skills to lead meaningful lives and to advance social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. Antioch University was founded in 1852 in yellow springs, Ohio. Its first president was horace mann, the father of public education in the united states, who deeply believed that education was the cornerstone of a strong american democracy. Today, Antioch is a national University with campuses in keene, nh; los angeles and santa barbara, ca; seattle, wa; and yellow springs, oh, as well as numerous low-residency and online programs. Campuses fulfill the mission by serving the educational needs of the communities in their regions; the online programs expand access to education through high-quality, affordable, and flexible education. Antioch enrolls more than 4,400 post-traditional age students in a wide variety of professional doctoral and master's programs, in an undergraduate degree completion program, and in professional certificates and endorsements. the University's mission is guided by the core values of excellence in teaching and learning, nurturing student achievement, supporting scholarship and service, a commitment to social engagement, and building and serving inclusive communities. A bold and enduring source of innovation in higher education, Antioch University is a private, nonprofit institution and has been continuously accredited by the higher learning commission since 1927.creating the Coalition for the Common goodantioch University and otterbein University laid the groundwork to co-found the Coalition for the Common Good (ccg), the first national higher education system of affiliated private, nonprofit colleges and universities that, through collaboration and integration, provide transformative education and lifelong learning. the Coalition for the Common Good is dedicated to promoting democracy, social justice, equity, inclusion, and engaged global citizenship. Unbound by geography, the ccg will use the combined resources of the member institutions to develop and deliver targeted educational and professional development programs that meet the unique requirements of our communities through academic partnerships with local businesses and employers. Through the Coalition for the Common Good, the universities have moved from being competitors to collaborators for the betterment of students and communities. Built on the faculty expertise of both institutions, the ccg combines members' graduate programs to form a graduate division with a national scope, operated by Antioch University. the Coalition for the Common Good will also collaborate on building or acquiring new programs that will benefit students. the Coalition for the Common Good will expand to include other colleges and universities that share the Coalition members' long-standing commitments to preserving democracy, furthering social, racial, economic, and environmental justice, and providing access to those seeking to advance their lives and communities through education.new programs and initiativesantioch voices launchedin august of 2022, the chancellor announced a new forum for antiochians to speak out about issues important to them. Since then, twenty-three students, faculty, and alumni have stepped forward to add their writing as part of the "Antioch voices" essay series. These pieces range in style from forceful op-eds to searching personal essays and even to more research-based explainers but they always include a sense of who the author is and why this issue matters so much to them.racial justice added to University missionat its summer 2023 meeting, the board of governors updated Antioch University's mission statement to include the word "racial," so that it now reads, "Antioch University provides learner-centered education to empower students with the knowledge and skills to lead meaningful lives and to advance social, racial, economic, and environmental justice." the purpose is to explicitly call out Antioch University's commitment to racial justice and its efforts to be an inclusive and anti-racist institution of higher learning. Recent efforts to live up to this mission have included the creation of a new position of head of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, the ongoing work of the anti-racist task force, and the completion this fall of a university-wide climate survey exploring student and employee experiences of exclusion and belonging.promoting research activismsocial justice has been part of the Antioch mission since its inception and implementing that mission requires many different approaches. That's why faculty and students from Antioch's new england psyd program and seattle psyd program came together for the second annual social justice symposium, with the theme, "liberation from colonialism now: promoting research activism." the symposium offered a place for community to come together and share knowledge, nurture collaborative relationships, and engage in activism through decolonizing research.co-designing conservation with (not for) communitiesan Antioch University faculty member is leading Antioch's ongoing co-designing conservation with (not for) communities project through which the University partners with zoos and aquariums across the country to help these public institutions promote communication and develop programming in close consultation with local, historically marginalized communities. Over the last year, the faculty member and the project team have engaged the communities around the partner zoos in ways that highlight what is working and locate community aspirations for the future. the co-designing approach offers a powerful new framework to listen and make an impact with partner communities.promoting literacy education as a key for social justiceantioch's chair of the ma in teaching is working to bring high-quality, socially aware literacy education to more classrooms in Washington state and across the country. As students develop confidence in their skills as people empowered in using language, they can perform writing tasks for themselves personally but also out in their communities to make a social impact and connect with other people. Effecting change in higher education through meaningful leadershipantioch University's phd in leadership and change prepares students to lead in many fields. As changemakers, alumni are taking their passion and accumulated skills to impact the field of higher education and doing important work, from identifying and lowering barriers faced by today's student populations to developing intentional ways to create a sense of belonging, from cultivating intercultural conversations to fostering in youth a spirit of giving back, and from leading mindfully to helping latinx students thrive.
