Subscription series and tour send-off concerts:grammy-winning Baroque orchestra Apollo's Fire's 2022-23 season marked its 31st season under founding artistic director jeannette sorrell. The season comprised subscription concerts, holiday concerts, and tour send-off concerts eight programs for a total of 29 concerts performed in multiple venues across northeast Ohio. Monteverdi vespers of 1610 - october 2022 storms & tempests (vivaldi & handel)- november 2022 handel's messiah- december 2022 wassail! An irish-appalachian christmas december 2022 muse of Fire (biber sonatas) - february 2023 exile: music of the jewish & african diasporas (celebrating the interwoven connections of the sephardic, ashkenazy, palestinian, and african traditions) march 2023 vivaldi's four seasons rediscovered april 2023 a return to bach's coffeehouse (includes bach's concerto for oboe & violin and telemann's concerto for flute & recorder, vivaldi's mysterious recorder concerto, la notte (night). May 2023apollo's Fire continued its watch-at-home video series, an initiative conceived inresponse to the pandemic. A subscription or ticket allows patronseither to attend in person or watch the concert-video at home (orboth). Three such concerts were recorded and videotaped. Apollo's Fire also released a new cd album on british label avie in the 2022-23 season.north america and international touring and the windy city seriesover the years af has performed on the world's best stages including carnegie hall, the bbc proms in london, wigmore hall, tanglewood, ravinia, to name a few. Apollo's Fire tours nationally and internationally, and has performed in 6 european tours. Most recently, fy23 saw a return to european touring after the extended pause due to the pandemic. Af performed at st. martin-in-the-fields in london and in aldeburgh, united kingdom, in heidelberg and fulda, germany. North american touring in fy23 included performances at the ravinia festival, il, san francisco and palo alto ca, with the ny philharmonic and at the metropolitan museum of art, nyc, and at the appalachian summer festival, in boone nc. Apollo's Fire also continued its windy city series to growing audiences, in evanston and chicago, il. They performed 3 different programs, 4 concerts total. Monteverdi vespers of 1610 - october 2022 handel's messiah- december 2022 exile: music of the jewish & african diasporas (celebrating the interwoven connections of the sephardic, ashkenazy, palestinian, and african traditions) march 2023education & outreachaf is deeply rooted in education and outreach through its community access initiative which augments its other outreach activities. The cai deepens af's focus on students, families, and individuals across all socioeconomic levels, thus bringing communities together for a shared transformational experience. Apollo's Fire believes in the power of music to inspire, transform, and uplift. We feel that all deserve to share in that experience in a manner that is accessible and affordable. Education and outreach activities include deeply discounted $12 tickets; free family concerts; in-school workshops with young students; free student rush tickets at all concerts; free family nights where students & parents from selected public schools are invited to attend a subscription concert for free; and Baroque bistros- casual concerts at area restaurants. This is in addition to discounted senior citizen tickets; the young artist apprentice program and af's musette program (children's choir ages 11-17). In 2019, af's board of directors approved the launch of the mosaic project- the second phase of af's community access initiative. In this phase, Apollo's Fire is prioritizing diversity throughout our organization and our audience. Ultimately, our goal is to help increase diversity throughout the national early music field.
