Program areas at Apufram International
Apufram International continued to financially support Apufram's efforts to carry out their goals of providing all levels of education, housing, food, clothing, medical, psychological & dental care as well as spiritual guidance to young people in extreme poverty in honduras and the dominican republic. All Apufram schools (4) and boarding facilities (7 in honduras and 1 in the dominican republic) were open. Ai also helped Apufram maintain four facilities housing university students in honduras and one in the dr. due to designated donations from a supporter, ai was able to add to the alicia perez medical student support fund, a fund which financially aids university students in medical fields. Donors also designated contributions for the following projects in honduras: renovation of the guesthouse and construction of a fence around the san antonio de padua home for young boys. Financial support was also provided to seven priests who must travel many miles to minister to their parishioners in rural parts of honduras in addition to eight lay pastoral workers ministering in rural communities. Additionally, a designated donation earmarked for improvements in the dominican republic funded the following at the two Apufram sites there: the purchase of new kitchen appliances, bedroom storage cabinets, plus metal bookcases and a computer table for the library. The donation also made it possible to remodel the kitchen, renovate the chapel, build new wooden podiums for the chapel, and install new basketball goals at the boarding facility in estebania. In 2023 ai sponsored one volunteer group from Wisconsin whose members traveled to mission sites in honduras. Their projects included painting the exterior of the guesthouse as well as its dining room, kitchen, pantry, and hall, and assisting with the installation of a new dining room ceiling. Finally, 270 students (grade school to university level) in honduras and the d.r. Were supported by individuals or groups through the ai sponsorship program.
