Collection: aata collected cuttings from mature sequoia and coast redwood trees from California, including the tule river tribe reservation, to increase our inventory. Propagation: aata continued with successful tissue culture with concentration on coast redwoods and giant sequoia and also had success with other species. This process enables the organization to mass produce replicas of these iconic trees. 2022 was the sixth year for propagating giant sequoia seedlings, coast redwood, black willow trees and other species. Aata identified new champion trees for collection including monterey pine, linden, sugar maple, bald cypress, and balsam fir. Archiving: aata continues to expand their living libraries. Reforestation 2022: 242 champion trees were planted on long island, ny 142 hardy redwoods were planted in various locations and 100 black willows were planted on the shinnecock nation along challenged waterways. 373 champion giant sequoia, coast redwood, and monterey pine trees were planted on the tule river tribe reservation, teravana, ponderosa, and marin county schools in California. 200 black willows were planted in inner city detroit. 1,071 champion coast redwood and giant sequoia were planted in the northwest puget sound region including tribal nation lands. 100 coast redwoods shipped to Oregon state parks. Education and outreach: aata continues to refine its website to further educate the public. Aata continues to be involved with media opportunities including national radio and television, in print and online. Aata's Tree school hosted over 1000 school children, as well as adult groups, with a focus on "propagating the propagators". Aata continues to host Tree school, for k-12 school groups, and adult groups at the aata facility. Tree school events include collection, propagation, and planting demonstrations and techniques.
