The awcf academic programs supported throughout the year consisted of the following: national security seminar (resident and distance programs), industry day, advanced strategic art program, carlisle scholars program, chair of War studies, deserio chair, chair of executive and strategic leadership, center for strategic leadership programs, and faculty augmentation. In this fy, we presented 17 writing and speaking awards for both resident and distance education program graduating students, as well as u.s. Army War College fellows. There were six major War College faculty writing awards, two College faculty chairs, and five landpower essay awards to external authors. Industry day was held with 25 representatives from defense companies or organizations, as well as the chief of staff of the Army. Funding was provided to assist in executing the basic strategic art program and the nominative leader courses. The advanced strategic art and carlisle scholars programs supported special studies for 16 selected students each. The Army leader day made it possible for 25 department of Army senior general officers and civilian leaders to meet with the War College students on strategic leader topics. Funding throughout the academic year provided for distinguished lecturers and electives speakers to present academic topics that otherwise would not be possible. Academic program funding supported the hosting of senior leaders, government officials, and other guests of the usawc who provided relevant and timely academic material in a variety of formats, courses, and events.
The Army War College Foundation gift shop is a benefit to the members of the Foundation and also as a gift shop for the general Army War College population. The College uses the Foundation gift shop as a source of gifts and mementos for speakers, trip visits to Washington dc and new york city, and guests of all kinds. The Foundation uses the gift shop as an incentive for membership. Foundation members receive 20% off the purchase of most items in the store. Anything priced over $300 is discounted 10% for members. The complete inventory is also sold via an online store. Members were provided a discount code in the magazine to use when purchasing online. When applied at checkout, this code gave the same discount that members received in the shop. The Foundation also administers a competitive scholarship program for children of lifetime members. During this fy, there were 42 Foundation scholarships awarded. Using the same competitive scholarship program but without regard to Foundation membership, the Foundation administered and awarded four distance education alumni scholarships as well.
The awcf program enhancements throughout the year consisted of executive services, military spouse and family program, international fellows program, alumni services, strategic leadership development program, press activities, and special events, such as service birthday commemorations. There were 75 international fellows and their families from 74 different countries this fiscal year, and they received orientations to the u.s. and its democratic, legal, and political foundations. There were several strategic leader staff rides which provided strategic leader programs for the College in its outreach programs.
