Program areas at Art Association of Harrisburg
The Art Association of Harrisburg (aah) offers 20+ classes in each of 4 semesters annually, serving approximately 700 students of all ages each year. Classes include wheel and hand-built pottery, clay sculpture, clay for kids, oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolour, landscape, basic drawing, portraiture, figure drawing, youth drawing and painting, Art for kids, and open studio. Classes are offered in the main building at 21 n. front st., Harrisburg; studios in reservoir park rented from the city; and giant foods community room, trindle rd., camp hill.
The Art Association mansion houses three classroom/studios, five exhibition galleries, and a small gallery to provide space for artists to market their works. The galleries are open to the public 7 days per week, with no admission charge. Gallery hours are: 9:30 am to 9 pm monday through thursday, 9:30 am to 4 pm friday, 10 am to 4 pm saturday, and 2 to 5 pm sunday. The Association provides free career counseling to artists, and strives to promote all artists' works to the public. Aah founded Harrisburg gallery walk 36 years ago and organizes it annually as a free walking/driving tour of Harrisburg exhibition sites. For 2023, 20 venues participated. The Art Association maintains a permanent collection of works donated by artists and collectors over the course of the organization's existence, which is periodically exhibited to the public.
Aah presents 8 exhibitions in the the main gallery annually: 2 membership shows, a juried exhibition, and 5 invitational exhibitions. Additionally, aah presents 64 rotating exhibitions in 15 community businesses and institutions.
