Program areas at Art with Heart
Art with Heart teams with mental health professionals, educators, and other community leaders to create and print creative expression tools to help kids deal with trauma and adversity. These therapeutic activity books are designed for K-12 students, with companion curricula for the adults helping kids learn to identify, express, and manage difficult emotions in overwhelming circumstances. Art with Heart resources are used in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs in schools, after school programs, and summer camps across the US. Art with Heart also trains adults on how to use the therapeutic activity books via webinars and in-person trainings and workshops. These trainings are designed for teachers, counselors, and social workers in school systems; therapists in private practice or at mental health agencies; adults leading after-school programs and working at grief and substance abuse camps; and child-life specialists in hospitals working with kids facing challenging medical diagnoses or procedures. Through individual donations and grants, Art with Heart is able to supplement the high cost of producing four-color, high-quality print products and curricula so that it can, in turn, offer products and trainings to less-resourced youth-serving nonprofits for a fraction of the cost. Art with Heart continues to develop new programming, including abridged books, free online creative expression tools, micro-learning videos on how creative expression helps with trauma and adversity, and the prototype for an online learning system built from digitized, searchable Art with Heart resources. Through individual donations, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and in-kind donations, Art with Heart provides culturally responsive resources to kids and communities in times of crisis, as well as underwrites the cost of training and resources for organizations that are under-resourced.In addition to the monetary activity reported in the 2019 Form 990, in-kind donations of services and material accounted for $46,257, helping to defray additional organizational expenses. www.artwithheart.org
