Program areas at Arthur Miller Foundation
Arthur Miller Foundation fellows program:the Arthur Miller Foundation fellows program in partnership with new york city public schools (nycps) arts office increases equitable access to quality theater education for public school students by providing tailored support for public school theater teachers to build sustainable in-school theater programs. Amf provides teachers with experienced mentors, cultural partner residencies, classroom resources, theater field trips for students, and professional development opportunities. In 8 years, the program has expanded from 15 to 87 fellows at public schools in all five boroughs of new york city, impacting approximately 43,500 elementary, middle, and high school students. It is the only program of its kind with a focus on integrating theater arts education into the academic day. Amf also supports 4 fellows in bridgeport public schools in Connecticut, who are collectively impacting 2,000 elementary, middle, and high school students.
Arthur Miller Foundation scholars program:the Arthur Miller Foundation scholars program provides 50% tuition scholarship grants to select candidates committed to obtaining a new york state (nys) certification in theater and an ms. ed. Degree in educational theater from the city college of new york (ccny), in order to teach theater full-time in new york city public schools. While amf gives priority to nys resident candidates who are teaching another subject in an nyc doe public school, the Foundation also considers other qualified candidates (such as resident or non-resident substitute teachers, teaching artists, and those with undergraduate degrees in theater) who are eligible to enroll in the ccny graduate program in educational theatre, with the ultimate goal of becoming a permanent, certified public school theater teacher. At the completion fy23, amf has supported a total of 32 scholars; 22 scholars graduated from the program to date, and 10 are actively being supported by amf.
