Program areas at Artichoke Community Music
Live Music Performances: Artichoke Music provides a listening room performance space for local and touring acoustic artists of all ages. Many of these shows are live streamed and video taped which increases the reach of the artist and provides electronic media to aid in promotion. Open mics, jams and song circles encourage those just starting out to gain confidence and grow. Mentoring and training opportunities are available for learning sound and video. 2023 included the addition of a monthly Teen open mic, welcomed international folk groups, and continued a long standing partnership with Tablao Flamenco.
Instrument Store: ACH specializes in stringed acoustic instruments and often have unique and hard to find merchandise. Much of our inventory is either donated or brought to us on consignment and represents cultures from around the world as well as from different areas of the country.
Community Outreach: One of the strenghths of the organization is the opportunity to learn by volunteering. We welcome all ages, races and abilities with many positions that help train for jobs, or build confidence including programs in sound and video productions, customer service as he door greeter, in bar service or in public speaking as a show host. In 2023 the organization celebrated an event with many former community members who are now elderly and provided a place for them to reconnect. To support these older community members afternoon shows were added. In addition, the organization supported the large Portland Mural Project. ACM supported other non-profits by holding a Maui benefit, the Friends of Forest Park and Rose Haven. ACM also supports Winterfolk, a yearly benefit for Transition Projects.
Artichoke Music Community had shared Program expenses throughout 2023.
