Program areas at Arts Council of Midland
Celebration of the Arts - An annual three day visual and performing arts festival that brings together an array of art activities, performances, and displays to downtown Midland in a family oriented event. Visual arts are local, regional, and national artists who are juried in to participate in the festival. Performing artists, mostly local, have a stage and captive visitors to listen to or view their acts. Sponsors are treated to a premier party with food and beverages and get the first opportunity to see the visual artists work. Throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, there are visual and performing artists, art activities that include take away projects for children, demonstrations, informal lectures, and several nonprofit organizations that highlight their organizations for visitors.
Other programs Other programs include the Sculpture Garden on the grounds of the Arts Council offices, which includes several sculptures with plans of expanding, a quarterly visual art series that showcases various area fine artists and an artist community market which features local and regional visual and performing artists. Other program services include ACM classes offered twice weekly in the mornings, and evenings weekly throughout the year. Classes include watercolori painting, drawing and design, pottery and clayworking. At the end of fiscal year 2023, ACM incurred costs for acquiring the historic Scarborough Linebery House that will eventual become ACM permanent home.
Subgranting Program that provides funds to local qualifying organizations for use in providing art programs in the Midland area. Subgrants are dispersed through this systematic and coordinated application process to organizations that range in size and length or existence that request funds for stimulating new activities, out of the ordinary projects, and laudable programming.
