Excellence in pharmacy practice & leadership development: recognize and promote efforts that foster excellence and growth of Health-System pharmacy.ashp student leadership award: this program, funded through the david a. zilz fund, is administered by the Ashp pharmacy student forum in collaboration with the Ashp Foundation. Twelve students who demonstrate high academic achievement, exceptional interest in Health-System pharmacy practice, and outstanding leadership skills were recognized. The awardees received a plaque, a $2,000 award and an Ashp drug information library. Each awardee submitted a plan to raise student awareness of the Ashp practice advancement initiative. Awardees will be surveyed to collect information on implementation and outcomes of their plan.pharmacy residency excellence awards program: the 2022 pharmacy residency excellence awards program was supported by samson medical technologies and medi-dose. This unique award recognizes excellence and leadership in the training and mentoring of pharmacy residents. The pharmacy residency excellence awards program recognizes a preceptor, new preceptor and program. The objectives of this program are to: 1) recognize the achievements of residency programs and Pharmacists who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in the training of pharmacy residents and 2) widely disseminate the results of these accomplishments to foster innovations in pharmacy resident training. Each awardee will also present an educational webinar on a resident professional development topics. The webinars are recorded and made available for on-demand access. Literature awards program: the Ashp Foundation literature awards program recognizes important contributions to the biomedical literature by Pharmacists. This program, administered by the Ashp Foundation since 1971, recognizes to stimulate innovation and fosters improvement in the quality of the evidence. Awardees are recognized through various electronic platforms and at the Ashp midyear clinical meeting. Ashp Foundation pharmacy student scholarship: in fy23, the Ashp Foundation launched a pharmacy student scholarship. The inaugural program, part of Ashp's commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the pharmacy workforce, was supported by apexus. The program awarded a total of $25,000 in scholarships to p3 and p4 pharmacy students enrolled at us-accredited historically black colleges and universities (hbcus) for the 2023-2024 academic year. The Ashp Foundation partnered with five accredited hbcu schools of pharmacy and provided each with $5,000 in funding for disbursement to recipients. Each hbcu schools of pharmacy will select one recipient to receive $5,000 or two recipients to receive $2,500 each. The recipients will be selected by their respective schools in fall 2023 and will have the opportunity to participate in additional engagement activities with Ashp in fy24. Pharmacist nutrition support patient-care impact program: supported by an educational grant from baxter and offered in collaboration with Ashp's section on clinical specialists and scientists, the pharmacist nutrition support patient-care impact program distance program is designed to develop leaders with knowledge and skills to optimize safe and effective nutritional support needs of patients. The program supports cohorts of up to ten pharmacy residents in pgy2 programs. The program and application launched in fy23, with the cohort selected in fy24. Medication safety scholars: Ashp Foundation in partnership with emily jerry Foundation and the Ashp student forum selected participants for the medication safety scholars program. The program is a distance impact program structured to support five p2 and p3 doctor of pharmacy students, paired with one group coach, to enhance their knowledge and skills in medication safety. Program participants met in june 2022 at the Ashp summer meetings in phoenix, Arizona to support a live session at the meeting and have a networking dinner to conclude the program and meet with the faculty in person. Pharmacy student clinical skills competition: ella domingo & mary rothenberger, purdue university college of pharmacy competed for the 2022 Ashp national clinical skills competitions and were awarded in december 2022, during the Ashp midyear clinical meeting in las vegas, nv. The Foundation has sponsored the pharmacy student clinical skills competition (csc) at the Ashp midyear clinical meeting 17 years. Teams who won preliminary competitions at their local pharmacy school participated in the competition. During the csc, students demonstrate their skills by assessing patient information and current therapy, identifying and prioritizing drug therapy problems, identifying treatment goals, and recommending a pharmacist care plan. Visiting leaders program (vlp): the visiting leaders program, with support from the david a. zilz leaders for the future fund, had another successful year. Ten leaders were involved in 19 residency visits, reaching residents, in fy23. There were twenty visits scheduled, but one was cancelled due to last minute conflicts with leaders' schedules. of the total visits majority were conducted in-person.pharmacy leadership academy (pla): the pla, supported in part by a grant from apexus, is an online Education program designed to provide comprehensive leadership Education to Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The pla class in fy23 consisted of 117 participants, who also remitted tuition and were enrolled in the program from july 2022 june 2023. The number of graduates from this class brings the total number of pla graduates to 1,178 pharmacists.william a. zellmer leadership lecture: where practice meets policy: this annual luncheon-lecture event, hosted by Ashp in partnership with the Ashp Foundation, is designed to honor the distinguished 40-year Ashp career of william a. zellmer and is supported by donors to the Ashp Foundation's william zellmer fund. Rear admiral krista m. pedley, pharmd, ms, director of the health resources and services administration (hrsa) office of special health initiatives, and the lecture ceremony occurred on september 13, 2022 during Ashp's annual policy week activities. No expenses were incurred by the Ashp Foundation for this program in fy23. Joseph a. oddis ethics colloquium: the joseph a. oddis ethics colloquium focused on the topic: ethics of big data-i policy values for implementing today's data technology in healthcare systems. The session was planned and led by the program chair in june during the 2022 Ashp summer meetings & exhibition in phoenix, az.
The Ashp Foundation corporate partners program is a strategic partnership between the Ashp Foundation, Ashp, and corporations which promotes medication safety and improvements in patient care. The program offers a robust menu of sponsorship levels and benefits for companies, focused on collaboration, recognition, and informational opportunities. There are four sponsorship levels and a-la-carte opportunities to better meet business objectives. Corporate partners program sponsorship is on an annual basis. With the generous support of corporate partners, the Ashp Foundation invests in Research, awards, Education, and leadership development that advances the pharmacy profession and ensures the safe, effective, and optimal use of medications.
Innovative Research: support health services Research that foster innovation in pharmacy practice, which promotes the optimal, safe and effective use of medication.pharmacy residency expansion grant: in fy23, the Ashp Foundation, supported by an educational donation from merck, awarded $75,000 dollars in grants to pgy-1 and pgy-2 pharmacy residency programs to increase the number of available training positions. Pharmacy practice advancement demonstration grant (pai): this grant previously awarded funding up to $75,000 split into three (3) separate payments for demonstration projects related to advancing pharmacy practice and improving outcomes. The grant period for this program is 24 months with the possibility for grantees to request an extension up to one year. A final grant payment for one grantee was remitted after the final grant report and final financial report were provided. The amount remitted was less than budgeted as it reflected the "actual" pending amount that the institution provided in their final financial report. Another grantee requested a one-year extension and the schedule for the final payment shifted to fy24. American Foundation for pharmaceutical Education (afpe) pre-doctoral fellowship: the Ashp Foundation provided annual funding of $10,000 for the afpe pre-doctoral fellowship program. Radio frequency identification (rfid) initiative: in alignment with the Ashp innovation center and through support from fresenius kabi, the Ashp Foundation continued to work on the next phases of the rfid initiative. In fy23, the Ashp Foundation released two podcasts with experts discussing the results of previous work and the potential impact of rfid technology on patient and medication safety. Work on the rfid strategic analysis project is expected to be completed in fy24. Pharmacy leadership scholars: with corporate support from chiesi, the second cycle of the pharmacy leadership scholars program was launched. The Research grant program provides funding for projects focused on dei, conducted by early-stage Pharmacists. In addition to providing up to $10,000 in grant funding per recipient, the program's goal is to enhance the leadership and Research skills of recipients and to provide a network of Pharmacists positioned to lead for equity. The selected participants participated in an online impact collaborative consisting of four Education modules with a focus on leadership development and dei. Five proposals were received and advanced for review by an external panel in fy23 and four grants were awarded in fy23.collaborative care grant for nurses and Pharmacists: created in partnership by the Ashp Foundation and the American nurses Foundation, this grant program aims to stimulate patient-centered interprofessional health services Research that demonstrates meaningful outcomes and provides funding of $75,000. The first grantee was selected in fy22 with funding split into three payments. The second grant payment was remitted in fy23. The second cycle of the program opened, twenty-four proposals were received and advanced for review by an external panel, and one Research team was awarded in fy23. The initial grant payment for the second awardee is pending receipt of their internal review board (irb) approval. Biosimilars project: in collaboration with Ashp, the Foundation initiated a Research project to explore the opportunities and barriers related to implementing biosimilars in practice. Amgen sponsored the project providing $126,800 to the Foundation, of which $58,800 was budgeted for the Research and report to be conducted by the Foundation and $68,000 was budgeted for the dissemination activities to be done by Ashp under its advantage brand. The Foundation convened an advisory panel of experts, including Pharmacists, a physician and payer representation and engaged an interprofessional Research panel in virtual qualitative Research using the canvas system. The work of the virtual Research panel was completed in fy22 and the advisory panel began creating the report of the findings that was completed in summer, fy23. Mue project: development of a medication-use evaluation (mue) template for andexanet alfa in the reversal of bleeding related to factor xa inhibitors: the Foundation initiated a project to create an mue template for andexanet. The project was funded by alexion for $95,900. The Foundation engaged a contractor and a medical writer and then convened content matter experts to develop the mue template using the newly published ajhp mue guidelines. The deliverables of the project included: a resource guide that includes templates with implementation strategies, a webinar, and a manuscript to be submitted to ajhp for first right of refusal. Work on the deliverables was not completed in fy22 and continued into fy23, as planned. Specialty pharmacy grant: administered by the Foundation, in close consultation with the Ashp section of specialty pharmacy practitioners, the inaugural recipients for the specialty pharmacy: rheumatoid arthritis Research grant were awarded in spring 2022. In fy23, the cohort engaged with faculty and a coach on several live calls to discuss pre-determined topics related to Research, disseminating outcomes, and implementation. The cohort will complete their Research and present in the next fiscal year. Pharmacy resident practice-based Research grant program: this grant program is funded through the almquist endowment. Nineteen submissions were received for the grant and an external peer review panel recommended awarding 7 grants up to $5,000 each. New practitioner pharmacist leadership development Research grant program: funded through the marianne f. ivey leadership development fund, awards new practitioner Pharmacists to support Research on leadership competency development or to create Education, resources and tools to support leadership development. The 2022-2023 application cycle was not opened in fy23. However, there was tracking and follow-up of past grantees. Optimizing technology solutions innovation grant: five applications were reviewed by an external panel in order to distribute funding to grantees in fy23. Created in partnership with the Ashp innovation center and supported by a generous donation from omnicell to the Ashp Foundation, each grantee was awarded up to $30,000. Research advisory council: in fy23, Ashp Foundation board of directors reappointed five members to the Research advisory council (rac) and appointed seven new members following an open call. The rac convened virtually throughout the year to update the council charter, plan a researcher roundtable, review the literature awards categories and criteria, and discuss Research resources. There were two Research podcasts launched in fy23 and the Research roundtable during the Ashp midyear clinical meeting in december 2023 had approximately 30 participants. New activities were also planned for fy24.pharmacy forecast report 2023: the 2023 pharmacy forecast report was supported by a grant from omnicell, inc., to the Ashp Foundation's david a. zilz leaders for the future fund and was published in ajhp in the january 15, 2023 issue. The distribution of the forecast report in ajhp ensured that it was made available to all 60,000 Ashp members. It was published electronically in december 2022 and previewed during an educational session at the 2022 Ashp midyear clinical meeting. The report generated authoritative, actionable strategic recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of leaders in hospital and Health-System pharmacy.
