Program areas at Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area
our theme for this year was "Speak Up, Rise Up." The theme was inspired not only by how our community and allies fought back against the rise of anti-Asian hate in the last several years, but also by AABAs history of speaking up on issues that impact the legal profession and the larger APA community. - Celebrating our community with 500+ guests at our first in-person Gala since 2019- Awarding $100,000 in scholarships and grants through the AABA Law Foundation, including four new scholarships for law students and new graduates- Hosting a fireside chat with former AABA women presidents- Hosting our Judges Reception to celebrate our local judges and to honor the stellar career of California Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye- Supporting AB 2596, which Governor Newsom signed into law to recognize Lunar New Year as an official state holiday- Presenting panels on critical topics such as AAPI-Black solidarity, voting rights, mental health issues, and fostering DEI in law firms - Providing professional development programs on negotiation skills, interview techniques, judicial clerkships, and advice for prelaw students- Kicking off the pilot A Peek in the Life program, allowing our members to shadow local API judges in their courtrooms- Celebrating QTAPI Pride Week- Supporting our in-house lawyers with networking events, educational panels, and the compilation of our annual in-house compensation survey report- Endorsing the mission and efforts of the California Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans- Providing networking opportunities, such as our Summer Diversity Reception, Solo & Small Firms picnic, Asian Art Museum night, and mentorship family events
