Program areas at AUW
Asian University for Women saw another year of rapid expansion of student enrollment and expansion of academic and extracurricular programs. Student enrollment peaked at almost 1500. Auw's commitment to the education of Women who are by-passed by the system at large was expressed in impressive ways with the arrival of more afghan and rohingya students, easily making auw the single largest host of female students from these two communities.auw introduced computer sciences as a new major and announced preparation for introducing two additional undergraduate majors next year:(1) biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics; and (2) humanities which would combine history, literature, philosophy and religion. A new masters program in apparel and retail management was introduced as a way of inducting capable female managers in the still growing textile industry in bangladesh. A new masters in pharmaceutical sciences and bioinformatics will be introduced in the fall of 2024.in the meantime, the graduate program in education saw its second cohort enter into the program. Offered in collaboration with johns hopkins University's school of education, the two-year ma program will graduate its first cohort of students and enroll its third cohort in january 2024.a new portfolio learning program was launched through which students could access a range of micro certification courses offered through google, cisco, harvard business school and others was launched.auw also saw significant physical expansion. A second campus was inaugurated with the academic facilities at the mahsa amini undergraduate center, two new student dorms accommodating over 600 students was opened as well as a new 45-unit faculty housing building. Additional facilities have been planned to be added.auw has begun the construction of its first major building on its permanent campus. The campus center, designed by moshe safdie, is expected to be completed within 18 months. The architect renzo piano has been commissioned to develop conceptual designs for the next three buildings: a concert hall, the academic center, and the common dining hall.auw received confirmation of financing of $30 million from the world bank forfuture construction on the permanent campus site.
