Assistance League Norman is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that puts caring and commitment into action through philanthropic programs in Norman. Member volunteers are dedicated to ongoing support and a long-term presence in the community through hands-on involvement and innovative philanthropic programs. Assistance League Norman currently has 249 member volunteers working to make Norman a better place to live and work through our programs. Assistance League Norman supports six community based philanthropic programs benefiting everyone from infants to adults residing in Norman and Little Axe.During the year ended May 31, 2023, volunteers donated approximately 13,500 hours with an estimated value of $429,000. This value was determined by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.Assistance League of Norman has several other philanthropic projects. "Operation School Bell" provides new school clothing, shoes and grooming kits to needy children in kindergarten through grade 12 in the Norman and Little Axe Oklahoma Public Schools. Students are referred to Operation School Bell by counselors in the school system. Children are also given a new book through the Chapter's "Book of my Own" collection. "Bears for Children" provides soft stuffed animals to children involved in accidents or other traumatic situations. Bears are donated and given out to children. "Care kits" provides grooming kits to battered women and children in the women's resource center and housekeeping supplies and groceries when they move into their own home.
