Program areas at Assistance League of San Pedro-South Bay

Francis J. Johnson Dental Center was open this year with minor restrictions. The Center continues working with the California Dental Association and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to insure COVID safety for our patients and staff. The Dental Center is open three days a week staffed by an accredited dental team, and provides high quality, low cost dental care to 318 children of preschool through high school age and low income families. This year the Center handled 1,153 patient procedures. We currently have 28 Orthodontia patients participating in our reduced fee orthodontic services. The reduced fee orthodontic services are provided by one orthodontist in the area along with shared expenses from our Chapter.
Weavers, a program dedicated to visually challenged adults formed in 1935, became a philanthropic program of our Chapter in the 1970s. The Weavers are guests each month at a luncheon prepared by the Chapter. Transportation, entertainment, and celebrations are part of the afternoon. Monthly attendance varies between 35-40 Weavers.
Operation School Bell (OSB) held 12 shopping events with 33 participating schools resulting in clothing 987 needy students. Additionally, OSB handed out Grooming Kits and school supplies for the OSB events.
