Program areas at Assistance League of Santa Monica
Student Support (Operation School Bell) includes three philanthropies:Eye exams and glasses for needy children and youth, through Optometric Options; 97 students received this service.Emergency clothing is provided for students in the Santa-Monica Malibu and Los Angeles School Districts. 447 sweatshirts and pants were distributed this year. In addition, 130 re-usable water bottles were purchased for one elementary school.A total of 564 needy students at local elementary, middle and high schools received backpacks at the beginning of the school year.CampershipsA total of 62 students attended either summer or winter sleep-away camp. Each student received a duffel bag that included a sleeping bag and hygiene kit. Additional duffle bags were acquired for the coming year.
Community Outreach and SupportCommunity Outreach provides one-time grants or in-kind donations in response toemergencies. The Maui Food Bank received funding for 700 meals to victims of the wildfires.Community Support provides grants and in-kind donations to five charities that are community partners that serve children and families:Upward Bound House received furnishings for four apartments in their housing for families transitioning from homelessness.Westside Food Bank provides food to local families in need, including meals for children during summer months, when they do not get free school lunches.Growing Side by Side, a non-profit corporation providing support for families of neuro-diverse youth, received a donation that covered the cost of 10 families participation.Bresee Foundation and St. Joseph Center received in-kind donations of clothing (80 bags) and other needed items.
ScholarshipsScholarships: College scholarships were provided to 31 high school students, including foster youth.
